Mt Heale Hut and Mt Hobson

Last but not least we are going to tell you about our latest and longest adventure to Mt Heale Hut and Mt Hobson – one 2 days trip with a sleep over. The weekend we had chosen so carefully happened to be, simply said, a shit day weather-wise. Heavy rain from the moment we were at the meeting place and on and off the whole way to the hut. BUT shame on them who gives in! We and Barry Got a lift from Caity to Port Fitzroy where we were going to meet up Michael and Hayley (friend nr 4) and eat lunch – aaaaaamazing burgers and chips all from ingredients from the Barrier.

After lunch we started to walk in a fast paste (Kaisa last panting). Our first stop was at another hut in the beginning of the track. Everyone went to the toilet and removed the warm raincoats (even if the rain still were falling down). During this stop Malin did the first fall (sorry, Kaisa was to slow to immortalize these falls because she had to concentrate on doing the walk). This fall resulted in a beautiful blue/yellow mark across her back – soo Swedish ;)

Gorgeous and equipped for an awesome weekend!

Slippery!

"Water, water, just plain water"

Glasses were not optimal ..

Suspension bridge :D

One happy and one less happy muppet. Up and down all the way.

Crisscrossing rivers. Luckily there were plenty of helping hands ;) A little earlier Malin also completed fall Numbero dos .. but not in the water :)

Another suspension!! Only one person at a time over this one.

Almost there!!

We made it!

The hut was amazing with a lot of gas stoves for cooking dinner, two toilets, a big dining area and two rooms with bunk beds and mattresses. We were not alone in the hut, three other guys had also went on a hike in spite the weather, but they didn’t make so much noise (we where the once making all the noises). The evening was so nice with warm food in our belly’s, win and a lot of laughs.

The next day went up Mt Hobson for the beautiful view and the walk home across Windy Canyon. We are off cores really happy that we walked the track to the viewing point, but during it was a pain in the ass. Stairs, stairs and more stairs – about a 1000 steps! (Why don’t the install elevators?? Or at least escalators??) But as we said, the view made it all worthwhile.

Hayley!

Tired Kaisa and Barry.

We have not edited the photo, promise!

All the gang together <3

Panorama of view (Barry showed up in the corner). Highest peak on the GBI.

The track back was sort of okay weather-wise, but we were all a little bit sourer and shaky in the legs, New Zealand is a hilly place. The mood was on top because of the great music and the lovely shower and food when we got back home sued the worst pain. A good night sleep and a few days with sour body’s were the result of the ordeal, but now we’re ready for the next adventure!
